Big Portage Lake is a quiet, isolated 600 acre lake near Land O Lakes. Some parts of the lake are pretty difficult to get to and require traveling on some logging roads, but it helps keep the lake nice and quiet. The average depth of the lake is 18 feet and the clarity in 20 feet. The lake isn’t highly developed and only has about 16 owners per mile of shoreline.

Paddling Routes:
No nearby routes but Big Portage has a lot of shoreline to explore and the clear water makes it a great paddling lake.
Snowmobile Trails:
The Land O'Lakes Frosty Snowmobile Club trails run along the west side of the lake. The club grooms and maintains 45 miles of trails. Of course these trails connect with the trails of all the other clubs up in Northern WI, so you can get anywhere you want.
ATV Trails:
The Landover ATV Club Trails run just to the west of the lake. It is a vast network of ATV trails that connect Eagle River to Upper Michigan. There are a variety of riding options ranging from paved roads to trails through the national forests. By far the largest ATV trail network in Vilas County.
