Big Muskellunge Lake

View of Big Muskellunge Lake, the 897 acre lake in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin

Big Muskellunge is an 897-acre lake south of Boulder Junction with an average depth of 26 feet and approximately 14 feet of water clarity. With only about 1.7 owners per mile of shoreline, private development is extremely limited, giving the lake a notably open and natural feel.

Extensive public land surrounds portions of the shoreline, so even on busier days the views remain dominated by forest and water rather than dense cabin lines. Multiple public landings and a public beach make it accessible, contributing to its reputation as a regional destination lake.

Buyers who choose Big Muskellunge typically want clear, deep water, strong recreation options, and a largely natural shoreline, understanding that public access brings periodic activity. For more detailed information, see my Big Muskellunge Lake blog post.

Times are approximate. I just took a rough average from different points around the lake.

This is a summary based on available information.

Big Muskellunge is a well-known multi-species lake with opportunities for muskies, walleyes, smallmouth and largemouth bass, pike, and panfish, supported by good water quality and diverse structure. Steep breaks, mid-lake humps, and weedlines along points and drop-offs are common targets, especially for walleyes and smallmouths in summer. Muskies patrol edges, saddles, and bars that connect structure pieces, and many anglers work them with bucktails, rubber baits, and topwaters in low-light periods. For cabin owners and frequent visitors, Big Muskellunge functions as both a high-quality swim-and-paddle lake and a serious, pattern-oriented fishery that rewards time spent learning contours and seasonal shifts.

I had AI give me the coordinates for the launches I had on file. They are not super accurate, but should give a rough idea of where you can find the landings. If no coordinates were available at all I didn't link to the map.
